With online poker rooms being so easily accessible nowadays, anyone, and I mean anyone possessing identification and a credit card can get involved in some pretty, high stakes games. There are many different kinds of poker and, with the internet being so readily available, people can gamble almost anywhere and anytime. The more popular and familiar poker games are Texas Hold ‘Em, 7 Card Stud, Caribbean Stud, Omaha Hi-Lo, just to name a few.

If you are a novice to the game, it would be a wise decision to stay on the free sites and practice your game until you’ve attained a certain measure of expertise. Even after jumping into the real thing, be cautious and do some research about the site where you are gambling. Ensure the rooms you select to play in have a fixed limit vs. a no limit. It mainly comes down to you as the player and whether you are a skilled player or just out there having fun. If this is just an occasional pastime for you and you have a set budget, then make sure you are in a room with a fixed limit otherwise you could quickly slip past your budgeted amount and be unable to eat the following week.

Many of the rooms offer incentives and bonuses to their players making it even harder for them to leave the room. It becomes an addition.

Of course, you can also play poker in person at a casino. While the online poker room offers you privacy, some people prefer being able to actually see and touch the cards. They don’t like feeling as if they are playing against a computer. They can see the dealer and the other people at the table with them. They are also able to see real money or chips on the table which adds to the excitement and thrill of the game. Being in the casino, hearing the cheers and shouts of other people, hearing the slots clink and ding, there’s just a certain attraction to that like nothing else in the world.

However, in a serious game, emotion cannot become a factor. That’s where the adage “poker face” came from. When your poker face is in place, no one can see that you are very angry at losing or super excited because you’re sure you’ve got the winning hand.

There are several methods or classifications that players fall into as their style of play. Or a variation thereof.

1.Are you a passive player? Do you sit back and let others direct the action?

2.How about loose? You have no problem tossing money into the pot.

3.Are you aggressive? You take the lead; place large bets to try and force hands.

4.Maybe you’re tight? Cautious; only taking risks when it’s a sure thing.

5.Or maybe you’re a combo of them. Which is great! Whatever is good for you!

As you learn and perfect your own poker playing style and decide which game you like the best, poker will become one of your favorite pastimes whether you are playing online, inside a casino, or placing bets through your favorite bookie. Remember: start slowing, proceed with caution, don’t bet more than you can afford to lose, and always know when to stop!
